Default Strap for A with 2 end pins

My 15 year old strap keeps popping off and I think it's time for a new one. Can anyone suggest a nice small profile strap that easily attaches to an A5 that has 2 end pins (one on the heel)? If you're using something you like, or have in the past, please let me know!

Web searches mostly reveal loop end or custom straps and I don't need to be that fancy and/or need the 2 end pin set up. My old strap just wore out the body endpin hole and it won't stay on with any confidence.

    Thanks!

    Chris

I have a couple of these Levy straps. No metal hardware. Thin (they are little less than 1/2 wide) and adjustable length. Hole slot at each end just thick enough to hold the end loop firmly. Elderly has a good price if ordering enough for free shipping. Last one I ordered on sale from Sam Ash

I tend to make straps out of leather shoe laces. I did buy one last time around and it works as well as but no better than a lace. If you lean on the mandolin while you play a wider strap may be in order. R/

I love my old strap there are several good ones available. I tried twist ties around the end pin over the strap. I used a very flexible thin rubber washer as a pop on strap lock. I tried several before I found one that was the right fit. I use it on my Pava Pro A-5 with two strap buttons.

I make my own from old, supple belts that I find, many of which are nicely decorated or embossed. I used to add tabs to these with punched holes for the end pins but have now moved to using 3mm leather cord with sliding knots to attach to the end pins which I find are more secure as they tend to self-tighten under the weight of the instrument.

I have posted this before but here goes again....I make mandolin straps out of dog leashes that are found at all flea markets and also at Wal-Mart....most are less than $400 so it is a cheap way to go....I use a hole pinch to make the right size hole to fit snuggly over the end pins....Leather shoe laces are also a good way to go...

In what world is a $400 dog leash a cheap way to go?

Ordered a strap from a guy who runs a leather shop on Etsy.com. Had it for a couple years and it's awesome. Here's the link to his store. https://www.etsy.com/shop/JPDco

I messaged him, said I wanted a thin strap in....however long you need it! Said I wanted one hole on one end, 3 holes on the other. It's a great strap, super simple. Cost me about....30 bucks all together. The Canadian to US dollar exchange rate works in your favor, as well.

I also make my own, but a safety pin over the strap button helps keep a worn strap in place. Also tying the strap above the cut to tighten it will help. For this I would I would use what was appropriate for the strap and what needs to be done. Artificial sinew would be a good candidate, using an awl for sewing. You could also splice or glue a new piece under the old strap with a new hole that is smaller. These are if you like your strap and want to continue using it. There are lots of new straps, pick what you like the looks of.

I've become very fond of this strap. Never thought I would go with a non-leather strap, but this one is super comfortable and almost infinitely adjustable. Can be set set up for loop + button or for two buttons. This one says $21.99, but I believe I got mine from a different source for $16 and free shipping.

I also bought a strap from JPDco on Etsy. Mine was a guitar strap that I use on my zouk. Couldn't be happier with it. Great quality.

    Three suggestions -
The Bailey - I received one with a mandolin. It is a great strap, beautiful and functional.
Randy Hogan - café member - I like braided leather round straps and his are terrific.
Lyn Dudenbostel daughter makes braided leather straps as well. I have not had one but they look nice.

I have also tried the Longhollow and Lokota Leathers straps.

I created a simple strap lock by using some plumber's o rings. My strap hasn't slipped off since.

Another thought to tighten up the original hole. I don't know if I can explain this, but-- take the end (either end) and go through the hole and pull it thru leaving a twist in the strap hole. It will make it tighter and look quite nice. You may be able to do it twice if it is really loose, depending how wide your strap is.
