Fred Hellerman
No mandolin content, but I didn't notice any mention of the Sept. 1 death of the last of the original Weavers, guitarist Fred Hellerman:
Rolling Stone obituary
I saw the group twice my first year at Harvard; Pete Seeger had been replaced by Erik Darling at that point. They did many of their "hits," from Roll On Columbia to Kisses Sweeter Than Wine, Irene Goodnight, etc. Darling did a great solo number, a bottleneck blues called True Religion.
One of the most important influences on the "folk revival"; as a product of that musical period, I salute Hellerman, Seeger, Darling, Lee Hayes and Ronnie Gilbert. "So long, it's been good to know ya!"
