Also, a very special thanks to those builders that donated mandolins as prizes that were awarded to the top three...how kind and generous of you!
Congrats Jordan!!!
A fantastic accomplishment! Looking forward to hearing that big Ellis under that right hand!
Congrats to Jordan. His recent contributions to the 'post a video of yourself' thread have been some of my favourite videos from anywhere on the cafe.
Friends, thank you so much. It still feels like a dream. I'm sitting in the air conditioning at a Mexican restaurant in Winfield eating carnitas and trying to let it sink in. Those of you who know me personally, know that I've struggled for many years with this contest (five consecutive finals without placing). Stubbornness paid off and I finally brought it home. The Ellis is already killer, huge bass response and very "bell-like" all across the board. Can't wait to see how it opens up. I'll post a vid when I get home. Thank you all again.
We're proud, Jordan! Hooray!
Jordan,
Though we've never met face to face, you have always been extremely gracious and kind in your remarks on things that I and others have posted here on the Cafe. For a player with your level of virtuosity, and knowing that I'll realistically never approach that level of musicianship, it really not only means a lot for you to be so gracious, but speaks well to your character as a man to display such humility, knowing full well you can play the fire off most of us!
I'm excited and happy for ya Brotha and look forward to being able to connect in person with ya one day. You're truly one of the good guys! Keep it up, and you know what? After displaying such perseverance on your part, your championship is something that "they can never take away!"
Good on you Bro, and I wish you nothing but the best in life going forward!
Any video of the performance? Inquiring Mando geeks wanna see it...LOL!

Congratulations Jordan, it was great to meet you a couple of years ago when you were gigging in Lancaster (UK). I was blown away by your playing and as others have intimated, you're a real gentleman too. Very well deserved and hopefully I'll get to meet you again someday and hear you play that Ellis
Congrtulations ! So......did you play the Calace preludes that you have been working on ??

And now there was no doubt that the trees were really moving - moving in and out through one another as if in a complicated country dance. ('And I suppose,' thought Lucy, 'when trees dance, it must be a very, very country dance indeed.')

So by chance I ended up riding with Jordan from the festival to our camp at the lake (flood year) with the trophy and all the swag. He was just about in shock. He has a pretty big cheering section in Winfield.
Then out came the Ellis. Tom did a special inlay for the prize mandolin and apparently had just barely got it done so it had almost no playing time. So Jordan and I got to experience what I've experienced many times before when a new instrument begins to bloom, getting fuller and richer in a very short amount of time. This is an awesome instrument and Tom should be very proud.
And Jordan is so deserving. The second and third players, Holten and Scott were amazing, but Jordan nailed his Duo piece, something you almost never hear in competitions.
