    Default Haywood A5L

First sounds from this one. Setup and varnish are not finished. "In the white", sort of.

    Tom,

That really sounds nice! Kinda like what "the mandolin in my head" sounds like.

Thanks Billhay4 and Usqebach. This is pretty close to what the mandolin in my head sounds like too. Maybe I shouldn't post video of an unfinished instrument, but I wanted to post the very first sounds while the nut slots and 12th fret action are still too high and the 3 week break in curve has yet to occur. That way we can see what the sound difference is when those adjustments take place. At minimum, it shouldn't sound so stiff and difficult to play. This one has a Red Spruce top and Red Maple back and sides with a hard maple neck. It already has some interesting voice characteristics. Sounds a little hard and quiet by itself, but it cuts through crystal clear in the mix with some good instruments. Seems to like a microphone too.

Second recording of this mandolin. Use earbuds or a good stereo for the full effect.
