    Default Kentucky KM-1000 Master F-model - V-neck shape

    Hi There,

I was wondering if anybody knows which other manufacturers build mandolins with a similar V-neck as the KM-1000.
Since I have started playing this particular Kentucky model I am totally in love with the neck shape and I don't have to struggle with any pain in my thumb (due to a scar of a previous accident) which the baseball bat shaped ones gave me.

    Any recommendations are very appreciated.

    Thanks
    Philipp

I have a Kentucky like yours and also a Gibson F5G. The neck on the Gibson is not the same as the Kentucky but it is a similar V shape. You may want to give the Gibson a try and see if you like it also.

It's a common thing to have necks shaved, you can talk to a luthier about it. It's a lot tricker on a mandolin than a violin, string tension, trussrod cavity and all that.

V-shaped on my Kentucky means only to 6th fret, or so, where it becomes more baseball bat (Telecaster) shaped, so you're not talking a lot of material.

Most of the Webers that I've ever played (including my yellowstone-like Buffalo) have skinny V-necks. IMHO, I think it makes it much easier to play.

I chose the 2012 Km 1000 as my backup,
Because it has similar specs as my 2002 F9.

I once owned a Skip Kelley A-5 with a narrow nut and sharpe V neck, also a wide nut F5 Silverangle with a pronounced V. My preference is a more rounded C or D shape on my custom Northcutt F5 and my Pava Pro.

Yes. The Silverangels have a pronounced V-neck. I've had two of them and both very similar. Very much a 'violin' feel, in addition. I suspect if you like a 'V' profile these are certainly worth exploring. Quite a strong radius, too.
