3 Gibson A-5Ls in the classifieds....
These are my favorite mandolin aside from big money stuff. There doesn't seem to be much interest in them, though. If nothing else, it's good eye candy. I have one, but I don't suppose it would hurt to have 2. It's just that I never own more than one mandolin, because I can't keep two awake.

I was about to post about these. They sure are perty and tempting. I would probably go with the 2004, unheard, as I know that was a great Fern year.

Seller's smooth description of the 2004 one is pretty impressive too. That Bozeman-era Flatiron F5 custom with the block inlays looks sweet too, vis-à-vis the Gibson apple not falling too far from the tree at that point.

Is it possible... ever so slightly, that their appeal has something to do with the fact that Gibson doesn't make them anymore? I have one, and I can't say they are special. They sound like a mandolin.

I like mine. I would concur with you, though....it sounds "like a mandolin". Many modern voicings are so bass-heavy that I'm not sure they sound like a mandolin anymore. One thing about mine...it doesn't disappear in a jam. It's not my favorite solo mandolin, but I hate playing alone
