I have a perfectly great Travelite case that is the best... super functional, great pocket space, durable and sturdy.

For my F5 I use a typical Gaurdian case that my Gibson came in... Gotta love all the space for stickers. Hahaha...

WHY then, do I feel such a longing for one of these tweed cases?! I love them! No sticker space... no fancy backpack straps. It's the least functional... The travelite has no sticker chance, but it's functional, the Guardian is the opposite. The tweed has no bonus but dang they look so fine!

Does anyone else love this aesthetic?

I Traded the one my Mix A5 came in to someone who Really needed that Tweed aesthetic, for a New Build they were getting.

And I had Gotten a less rattle around interior space Eastman Fiberglass (A5 only Fitting) case off the classifieds.

So The 4 string Electric (that had inherited that Case) got a New Black case in a straight trade,,,

Hey Mandroid, that was me who traded for your tweed case. Thanks again.

I concur that tweed cases have a classy/cool appeal.

YEAH, I love 'em too. I've used them for years. They don't absorb the heat like the solid black ones do. They fit A and F-style mandolins, right or left handed. But, whadaya mean - "no sticker space"?

I have one. Just too classy to pass up. I never understood the attraction for black cases. My fiberglass cases are white.

From the OP - "The travelite has no sticker chance,.." . Who says !. My Travelite had a Cafe sticker(s) on it until recently. It had been on it for a few years & i removed it only because the edges had started to curl,

I love the tweed case my J Bovier F5T came in the space for left handed scroll allows me to wind up my strap or a humidifier during dry times. It has a very comfortable leather handle. It often get positive comments maybe because it contrasts the typical black case.
I carry my Pava Pro in a silver fiberglass Eastman case. Black was an option but I waited until the silver became available especially to help reflect Texas sun.

There's a bad-boy tweed (see bottom photo in post #1 above) under this cover. The mando fits perfectly with adequate padding, no movement and no inappropriate touching anywhere. With the cover pouch, there is ample storage space. For festival carting, it really beats the heavier, CF-type cases.

I have a container disorder...... I like things in boxes ... I have several bags, back packs , shoulder bags and look at , that's guy talk for shop, for more. I don't really know why but different bags and boxes and cases appeal to me. Case covers have entered that picture too. < sigh...... Calton cases are great but heavy , five play arched top cases are heavy also, gig bags aren't cases but those leather ones from Reunion Blues are too cool. Travelite is soooo light but still provides good in hand security for my instruments. I could go on...... for paragraphs. Whether it is part of MAS or another disorder all together matters little to those of us afflicted. Say it with me ....... Bye bye money, tally ho! ...... R/

Yes, stickers present no problem at all on a surface like this.
However, the light vintage color and surface structure is more susceptible to the tides of fate with the years (see below).
This is my Chinese-made OM case I bought long ago because it exactly fitted the Fylde.

The Breedlove mandola I owned for a few years came in a nice tweed case. Might have been a Cedar Creek, I can't remember.

It never left the house so I can't comment on the wear factor, but I'm pretty sure it would be looking more "distressed" at this point than my fiberglass Pegasus mandolin case, if it had the same gig and session hours. There are scuffs on the Peg's gelcoat that would be deep scratches on a tweed surface. I don't think the leather edging of that tweed case would hold up to rainy weather up here in the PNW like a fiberglass case either. But a tweed case does look pretty snazzy, I admit.

I'm partial to tweed cases. A Cedar Creek rectangular for my lefty Woodley and a tweed for my lefty Collings MT.

I think they look nice... but I have found they are not as resilient as most other cases externally. If you get anything spilled on them they are hard work to get stains off. I have one that a custom Martin came in, and somehow it picked up some oil/grease from being carried in the back of a truck. That would be no problem with a fiberglass or ABS case, and I think would probably have come off a typical 'Tolex' black case too, but even using all kinds of carpet and fabric cleaners I was not able to remove all traces from the Tweed. There was also some fraying that started around the edges... although this had the CF Martin plate, it was actually made by TKL.

I do like the appearance of the tweed case, but, for me,a black case, well looked after, looks pretty classy. I'd also agree with Almeria, that they're possibly not easy to keep blemish free,& with being a 'material' finish would be more stain absorbent than Tolex (or 'whatever') the TKL style cases are covered in,

It never even occurred to me to remove stains and blemishes. That's street cred earned the honest way. I might as well try and wipe the wrinkles off my face to look like a Ken doll.

An application of lacquer or shellac, as applied to some Fender tweed amps, could provide protection. It makes the amps look cool and vintage.

This was thick black, smelly, oily stuff. Some kind of engine grease. Transferred to anything else it came into contact with too, including clothes, so it had to go. I got rid of the worst of it, but certainly not invisibly. Other than that, nice case.

I have a tweed TKL guitar case that went through Hurricane Rita back in 2005. It was in my apartment on a bed under a blanket. The storm tore the roof open and water came. Could not get back into the apartment for a week and in that time mold developed on the side and back of the case. No amount of scrubbing would get those stains off but the case is intact, no damage inside. It's just a reminder that I survived and when people ask I tell them the story.

I get it. I have a tweed case. And the mandolin in it I often play with a tweed guitar strap. And for walking around festivals, I even purchased a tweed soft case. And I got iron on stickers for it.

I get it. I really do.

In the early 70s, the spouse bought a late-60s Tele that came in a much older, battered Fender tweed case -the case was probably late 50s, early 60s (Koylon interior). It wasn't in good shape when he bought it and the years didn't improve it much. About 5 years ago he decided to get rid of it and was just going to toss it - the tweed was ripped through and missing in a few places, it had a bunch of names spray-painted on it, one one latch worked, it was dented in a couple places, the hinges were iffy. Instead he put it on ebay, as a "non-functioning display-only case." He started the auction for $25 plus shipping and it went for $550.
