    Default Five string acoustic tenor

What the subject says. Anyone got one? Or opinions on such a beast? I like the idea of having it in (low to high) CGDAE (or CGDAD) like I have my cittern. The trouble is I don't quite enjoy my cittern as much as I might. Therefore I think it'll have to go at some point to fund a tenor guitar. Hence my reasoning for five strings. You see, I prefer fingerstyle playing.

I made one up from a jumbo body six string, banjo tuners, cut down bracing, cut down neck with a new tapered fret board to get a bit of angle over the bridge. I tried various strings & tunings but I couldn't get it working very well for me.
I now think on reflection, I might not of made the correct fret board spacing because it just sounded crap!
I still have it in the outdoor shed, I might have another look at it one day...

I have both an archtop and solid-body electric made by Paul Lestock of Arrow Guitar and Mandolins. I tune them FCGDA.

hi sorry it hasn't worked - when i log into my account i get that the page isn't found download the photo to your computer and reload it up here. I will look to see if he's any sound/video I can look at. When I suggested an archtop to a luthier he felt that paired strings were better to drive the archtop. what sort of volume are you getting?

A number of makers offer mini 6 strings that can easily be strung as a 5 without much fuss. Here's a Yamaha:

With a scale of 21-1/4" you should be able to tenor tune it without much problem.

So there's a few odd vids of 5 string acoustics on YT. Sound leaves a bit to be desired on all. One was CGDAE, another FCGDA

I'm very torn as to which I prefer!

I'd still be tempted to my favoured tuning of dropping the high string a tone down. CGDAD / FCGDG
