Default "La Rose" - Intermezzo (Emil Ascher, 1900)

Emil Ascher (1859-1922): "La Rose" - Intermezzo
Arranged for two mandolins and guitar by E.H. Frey
Published in 1900 by Carl Fischer, New York.

This is a light classical intermezzo in waltz time, very turn-of-the-century in style. IMDB has the following biographical entry:

"Composer, organist, pianist, conductor. publisher who arrived in the USA in 1889. He studied music with Niels Gade and Cornelius Gurlitt; in the Royal Conservatory in Leipzig with Franz Liszt and Richard Wagner. He founded a publishing firm in Hamburg. He was a conductor and organist in New York churches, and conducted band concerts in the old Madison Square Garden. He organized a 75-woman orchestra for the Atlantic Garden in New York. He composed the following works: "Maximillan Overture"; "Royal Overture"; "La Rose Intermezzo"; "Our Heroes March"; "Pilgrims Love Song"; "Our Students March"; "Pilgrims Love Song"; "Our Heroes March"; and "Olympia Overture"."

After his death, his music publishing business, Emil Ascher Inc, became a specialist company for background and mood music (see classicthemes.com).

This light intermezzo is from a collection of tunes of the day, all arranged for two mandolins and guitar, published by Carl Fischer -- the same collection where I found Sizilietta. I have recorded it on two old Italian bowlbacks and tenor guitar (ignore the reference to octave mandolin in the video credits -- I had forgotten there is no OM part when I made the video).

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    1915 Luigi Embergher mandolin
    Vintage Viaten tenor guitar
