Thread: Sound of different picks on the mandolin (sound examples)

Default Sound of different picks on the mandolin (sound examples)

I made a video I thought could be useful to some people. I recorded myself playing the same example 10 times but each time using a different pick. There are no Blue Chip picks in the examples (haven't dropped the $ for one of those yet). But there are some Dunlop, Fender, D'Andrea, and V-Picks.

Most noticeably missing, other than the Blue Chip, is the Primetone, and the Wegen. I think they would have stood out in this comparison.

I've been a Blue Chip picker since they first came out but have switched to a Wegen Bluegrass pick since obtaining a new mandolin. It seems to sound clearer and louder then my old standby Blue Chip. I keep both in the case but the Wegen brings out the best in this particular mandolin. The Blue Chip still sounds better on my guitar though.

    A Loar era Didjeridoo

I will have to try the Primetone and the Wegen. Both seems about as much $ as a lot of the V-Picks. I can say that I am fairly impressed with the V-Picks Gladiator. All the V-Picks seem to slide off the strings real easy.

I liked the V-Pick Gladiator myself.
