    Default 1920's Vega..

    Hi all
My mate's offered me a chance to look at his 1920s Vega - it's a flat top, round hole type, banjo tuners. He hasn't said yet what he'll sell for, but that's not my question... my question is "should I?"

One "should I?" is easily answered - I want to have the ability to use one in G tuning whilst retaining the McIlroy in C tuning (well actually I've got it in Bb F C Bb at the moment).

I've not seen it yet - what should I check for?

    Experiences & video clips appreciated

Hardly a question with your previous

I have a 20's Vega banjo, the tuners are friction pegs, workable but a challenge at times, I often settle for 'good enough'.

I think the price and condition is quite important as I have bought and sold a few similar guitars, they are solid wood but ladder braced with friction tuners. I have been disappointed with the sound of the ones I have played.
Not to say you should not buy it just saying don't expect to much in the playability stakes.

I love mine. They are light and can be slightly "tubby" in GDAE tuning, but with 12-20-20-42 phosphor-bronze strings it sounds pretty good. It'll never dominate a jam, but I love playing with a few others.

Mine came without any bridge plate... nada... I installed a small maple plate which I convinced myself improved the sound a bit.

I truly love the playability of my little vega, FWIW.
