    Default Hiscox Case - nice!

    Hello friends,

I'm new here and just picked up my first mandolin. I'm a guitar player primarily but have always been drawn to the tone of the mando. I was able to pick up a Hiscox case and I just wanted to say how incredibly protective they are and worth the price if you have a nice mando. Thought I'd start my first post off with some pics:

Yep. A well designed case. Holds a lot of mando stuff and the self-sealing accessory compartment is a plus for everyday use.

    Nice Gibson(and case)!! congrats

    Nice pics, fine pair.
Your right, the Hiscox is a great case, great protection at an affordable price.

Here is a photograph of my Shippey A5 in the Hiscox case it came in. I really like it, lots of storage space, quite light if a little bulky. It has already earned its keep when it fell from the back of the car after a gig when opening up the tailgate!

Just curious, how would an F4 fit in that case?

So, it looks like the stuff box cover is embedded in the lid; when the case is closed, the box has its cover; when the case is opened, the box is uncovered. Is that right?

It's the only one my wide belly/back Siverangel F would fit in without crushing the top. Great price from Mandomutt in Efland NC.

I'm interested in this case. Seems like a lot of bang for the buck. Anyone know if they will fit a tonegard?

Mine holds an A5 with tonegard and McClung armrest without issue. Closing case with the tonegard feels same as without.

The support pads system seems pretty cool. You can see them in the video. They kinda suspend the mandolin so there is clearance everywhere but the contact points. Only two contact points hold the mandolin down. Tailpiece area and where the neck rests in the 'saddle'. Looks plain on the outside but the inside rocks

    They have four latches now

A little late to answer, but I was on a long search for a case for my F4 and am answering mostly for those who are on the same hunt.

It's an Arches F4 that Chris built to the Early 20th Century Gibson Torch & Wire spec.

This Hiscox is definitely the best fitting, and most protective case I have yet to find.

Good to know a Silverangel fits. Mine barely resides in a Travelite.

I scored a mint 2 latch Hiscox on CL waiting for my Bernabe. I believe Hiscox quit using the red lining because it left red residue on their heat presses. Pretty cool to look at tho...

That is a sharp interior. I had only heard of Hiscox from Lowden guitar channels. I knew they were nice. It's great they make a mando case as well.

Having once owned a Hiscox case,i would say that they are a very good case - but bulky. It's fine if you have your own transport, but i use UK public transport & it was a tad too large, even more bulky than my TKL rect.case. As for the string'n things compartment, i covered my bits & pieces with a folded up yellow duster & some rolled up velvet - just in case. I did NOT want my wire snips & pliers floating around my Weber "Fern" mandolin !. But a good case all the same - unless it's dropped from an aircraft hold,

Bought one for my F5G at Musician's Friend for around 180 bucks. They had a 15% off sale and I had some points to spend.

About the same weight as everything else then - https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/s...Case-Fit/page2

Nice cases; I have one for my bass, but I really hate the catches - too fiddly.

Good point. I wouldn’t use a Hiscox case on a bus, train, or plane. Or if walking around with it for a while. Perfect for taking in auto to local jam or gig

G.Cassidy, thank you for the post. I need a good case for my old F4. Will ship it for repairs;the old case genders no confidence.

I'm hoping the Arches F4's lines are close to a teens Gibson F4's dimensions.
My old F4(1915?) has a double flowerpot;not torch&wire. If that matters.

Had a Hiscox case for my Lowden guitar.(just sold guitar and case). Seemed like a very nice case;sturdy, relatively lightweight.
    Never weighed it;owned it for 25 years;untraveled/unshipped.

You're certainly welcome. I know I have been searching for awhile and am more than happy to pass on my results.

I wish I could give you an absolute answer on this one, but I am not sure anything more than the inlay changed across the years. There's not too many better places than the Mando Cafe to get a proper answer. Hopefully, someone who reads this knows the answer and can provide...

Same as you. My only prior experience with Hiscox was their guitar cases and I know they are above average. The build quality and protective features of this case are the same as the guitar case. Superior build, all around.
