    Default Case Suggestions for Oval

I have a mandolin that looks to be a replica of an old Gibson oval. The case it came with was made by the builder, and it's a large square plywood model that is very heavy and starting to need work on the inside. I'm thinking about replacing it, but I'm not sure where to look.

Is something like this the right size? I'm just not sure where to start.

If that TKL case you linked to is the same size as the ones used for Collings "A" styles, then yes, it will fit. Although its tight against the padding but not in a totally bad way. It just compresses the padding in a bit and keeps the thing from moving at all. That case you linked may have different padding inside. Who knows. Call Elderly, I'm sure they will test fit for you.

Also look at the Eastman fiberglass cases for F-styles, thats what I keep my A-Jr in.

I have a couple of spare F cases, it won't fit in either. The Superior case is too narrow in the body, the mando is 10 1/2" wide.

The Gibson case my F5 came in doesn't fit either. The distance from the tailpiece to the neck joint is too long, the heel hits the case. Even if I shaved an inch of the padding, the headstock would hit the accessory case.

This is a specific case. The Eastman fiberglass F style case.

Fits great, plus room for a humidifier. But not much else.

My '18 A1 fits fantastically in the TKL Prestige arched A case.

Yeah, that Eastman case looks like it might work. I guess I need to take down all the measurements then call around.

It'll probably fit in a fibreglass Eastman "A" case as well - that's what I keep my snakehead in. From what I can see, early Gibson's and Eastmans are slightly larger than other "A", which is why they won't fit in many of the standard cases.

My only complaint about the Eastman case is that there's not a lot of room for much else inside (no internal pocket) so you might want to check one out before you commit yourself.

NB you can use the space in the lid, over the headstock for a bit more storage,

I have an even slimmer A5 FG eastman, that's where the string packet goes, in a soft bag
    embroidered 'crown royal'...

I fold my (neotech)strap over , and it goes in the space under the lid too...

tuner goes in the head space under the headstock..
