    Default New Parlor GOM Build

    Hello!
I just finished up an octave mandolin with a parlor guitar body and I wanted to share it with the community. It is fully carved with a cedar top and maple back and sides. So far the tone is very warm and rich with a resonant low end and clear high end.

    Thanks for looking!

    Kyle, that's a beautiful instrument.

Out of curiosity, with the cedar top, what kind of top thickness did you go with in key areas, like the recurve and under the bridge?

I started out with it about 25% thicker in all the areas, compared to what I start with on a spruce top, so it was around .25" under the bridge down to about .16" in the recurve. When assembled it was still a little stiff so i took some more off of the recurve to get the top to the responsiveness that I like. Hard to say what the final dimensions were exactly after all of the final adjustments, but I would say that it is still about 20% thicker than a finished spruce top.

The F hole and cedar sounds great to me. The F hole gives it some punch but the cedar warms it up. Nice combo.
