Thread: Gig bag for Gibson Tenor Lute (or open back 11'' tenor)

Default Gig bag for Gibson Tenor Lute (or open back 11'' tenor)

I have a Gibson tenor lute (which is mandola body + tenor banjo neck), and I cannot find a good gig bag fir it. In theory, nice padded bag for 11' open back tenor banjo should work well. I've checked Reunion Blues, but it seems to be too wide (14.5''). I'm considering getting a custom one, but probably there're some other options?

I read this thread (http://www.banjohangout.org/archive/253164) and contacted Glenn Cronkhite, but it seems that he's not making bags anymore.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Check out the Gold Tone "banjola" gig bag. I have both a "banjola" and a tenor lute, and the TL fits into the bag -- not a snug fit, but the bag's well padded and I'd have no hesitation using it for normal transportation.

Apparently you can order the bag directly from Gold Tone.

Spruce, I really lack the camera capability to take and post pics. There are lots of TL pics available; mine's in decent shape, missing the tailpiece cover, with finish wear and a small screw eye on the side of the headstock, evidently a former owner's strap attachment. Pumpkin-ish finish color, "moccasin" headstock, planetary banjo pegs, oval Master Model label, number "11180-something" blurred stamp inside the treble f-hole.

Got it from a guy in CA, paid about $1.7K for it, as I remember. Original HSC, in sorta-OK shape, handle missing.

What style cover does it need? I'm doing 4 engraved and antiqued Loar-style covers right now that are coming out very nicely...

Yes, converted to 8 strings. It sounds nice and unique woth 4 strings, but I wanted the 8-strings version. it has a bit more punch and also volume

Allen, the internal dimensions of the banjola bag are 37'' x 13'' which is a bit too big (i need more like 34'' x 11''), but so far it looks like the closest I can get :-(
