Default Finally, A Workable Mando Mount for a Pro 35 Mic

Have been searching for a while for a workable mount for my Pro 35. The alligator clip they supplied was not strong enough and the DPA clamp I bought didn't work for whatever reason. It just left me dangling in the middle of gigs. Not good. So, I turned the challenge over to my pal and Tucson luthier, Marc Rennard. Marc is an excellent fiddle player who has spent the last 30 years of his life doing violin repair in the St Louis area.
Here is what he came up with. Basically it is a violin chin rest clamp, similar to what most folks use to secure an arm rest. The added block of wood is drilled out to the diameter of the mic stem. The clip has been cut off and is currently keeping a bag of tater chips closed. Right now it is a friction fit. (Remember Marc is a violin guy.) It has held up nicely for several gigs with no dangling. If it ever loosens up I believe we will just put a set screw in the side and that should do it.
Just wanted to share a solution that is allowing me to use a mic I really like. Jim

Good solution. Looks solid. I agree - these are a really fine little mic.

Nice to hear that Marc is back in Tucson. Tell him I said hello next time you see him.

I'm going to try that with my Bartlett mic. Clipping it to the F hole picks up too much body noise.

There is no mechanical isolation at all with those... both the AT's and DPA's are in quite effective isolation mounts. Makes a big different to 'thumps', 'thuds' and other handling noise.

JimKo, that mount looks great. I'd thought about something like that as well, but couldn't get it to fit a case unless I removed it every time. So I worked with a repair guy locally who is a bit of a mechanical Wiz- he rigged a way to attach the mic using some extension brackets to a Tone-guard, which goes on and off easy for storage. Just adding this option to your thread as it seems there are a lot of us looking for the ideal solution. Every one seems to have pros and cons.

Hey Folks, Thanks for all the good comments.
Tony, I will pass on greetings to Marc.
Br1ck, I switched from the Bartlett to the Pro 35. I liked the Bartlett but the 35 is a little more natural sounding to me. Maybe your set up is different. Body noise was never a problem. Does you clip have a pad on it?
Mark, If you have a photo of your mount it would sure be good to see it.

Yes, it's padded. For some reason, when going into the PA, I hear too much thunk. The audience does not, but it's distracting through the monitors. I think it would be fine on a gooseneck away from the body. Sounds ok to me. Certainly worth a try before moving on. Now, what to do for a gooseneck?
