Hi, Peter here! Happy to join in the community. My friends gave me Epiphone MM30 as a gift and now I need to do something with it I've been playing guitar for over ten years now but these are quite different things. So I intend to stick around and study the forum thoroughly (and practice, of course). So thank you for having me and sorry in advance for stupid questions

Welcome Peter. There ain't no stupid questions here, just good folks with a boat load of advice, wisdom and support. One thing to remember, this is supposed to be fun (and it really is), despite the sore fingers and frustrations in not getting a chord shape or specific run you want to learn. Best of luck.

Welcome o the Cafe. I came as a **cough** banjo player. That was 13 years ago. In that time I have gained a lot of wisdom, information, and friends. What more could you ask ? As soon as I saw this post I realized that I also got a severe case of MAS (Mandolin Acquisition Syndrome). You can see that this has cost me a lot in money, but the rewards are worth so much more.

R/ You don`t have a B string on your mandolin? No wonder I have been having trouble with intonation all of these years...Lol

Welcome to The Café Peter, but not everything you will rad on here is always correct, you will be able to figure out what is and what isn`t as time goes by...By that I mean some people don`t explain things very clearly and some of us get confused, there is always a PM that can me made to the person that posts the information to get a better idea of what he/she was trying t explain...Still a lot of good useful info just about every day...

Yes, Welcome. I have to admit I came as an ACCORDION player.
Old joke: question: If you drop an accordion and a banjo off a building at the same time, which one hits the ground first?
    answer: No one cares.

Try and find someone to help make sure your mandolin is set-up well. It will make learning to play much easier. An Epiphone MM-30 was one of my first. Perfectly good instrument to learn on. We warn you though, MAS is a virulent ailment.

And fair warning - if you get a case of MAS we will do everything to encourage it, not try to cure it! LOL!!!!

IF you get a case of MAS? I don't understand the uncertainty, unless you start with a Loar and even then you'd was an Ellis for a beater.

I came as a guitar player. Also have a raging case of MAS. Had a rogue for about 10 seconds and have since picked up 6 more mandolins.
