    Default Birdseye Mandolins

    Hey All -

I'm planning to have a Mando built and want the back and sides to be Birdseye maple. Wasn't many pictures posted on the Cafe. Was hoping the Cafe community could post some. So, if you guys have any nice pics, could you please share? Thank you!!

This was in the classifieds and I really wanted it, but couldn't get the money together in time before it sold.

Go to the web site(s) of whoever you're thinking of using for your build and look to see if they have Birdseye mandolins for you to view. It's beautiful wood for sure!

Birdseye figure is only found in hard maple. I don't use it, and don't like the end results via soundwise, too trebly. But have to admit it's pretty to look at,.. best left for aircraft interiors and high end boat tables, not mandolins.

If you want some photos of mandolins with INCREDIBLE figure, you don't need to go further than Ellis Mandolins ( ellismandolins.com)
Tom has done some of the most spectacular work I know of. Some of them makes birds-eye look plain.
