Default Any other Daley owners out there?

I have two great Daley F5s. A classic red spruce topped and a standard sitka. I've looked at trading up but can't find anything to compete unless I go $10K plus. Always walk away happy with what I've got! Guess that's not a problem, right?

I'd post pictures, but Photobucket stinks now.

    Rick,

I don't have a Daley but a friend has a wonderful A model that I love to hear at the occasional jam. If it is representative of other Daleys you've got a couple of fine mandolins.

It's been a while since I've tried it, but I believe this site allows you to post photos from your p.c. saved files.
    Agree 100% about Photobucket.

A friend of mine ordered one and asked for it to be delivered in time for him to use it when playing on a festival, well the builders brought it and hand delivered it to him just so he would have it in time, he played it and everyone commented on how well it sounded and he showed it to me and I found that the bridge saddle as on backwards and the bridge wasn`t in the right place for correct intonation so I did a set up right in my motor home for him and man did it sound so much better after that work was done, they are great mandolins and deserve some noterity in the builders section....The bridge was put on that mandolin by one of the fellows when driving to the festival to hand deliver it and he admitted that he wasn`t the builder, I believe he said he was his son and din`t know exactly how the bridge was to be placed on a mandolin...

Interesting Willie, hand delivered with the bridge improperly positioned and saddle backwards, hmm.....

I don't think Sim has a son, least not one I know of. Sounds like something is not quite right there. Sim was known for his set ups and repairs as well as his mandolin making. Doubt seriously he'd have sent a mandolin out without a bridge. Doesn't sound the Sim Daley I had visits with on several occasions.

I was only going by what I was told, he may have been the son of the fellow that was driving the car...Sim was afraid that the mandolin wouldn`t get to the fellow in time for him to use it on the festival so the "Son" was to install the bridge while at a motel stop along the way, I`m not sure where they were coming from...That's all I know and it was a great sounding mandolin, I haven`t seen it after that day...

Please don`t shoot the reporter, I only know what I was told...

No where a trigger pal! Just curious it just sounds odd, sim goes to the trouble and expense of having the instrument hand delivered and does NOT set it up at all? I'd be a little miffed is all I'm saying.

It could be that the buyer of the Daley mandolin was buying from a dealer that sold Daley mandolins and they were delivering it to the festival, I was not familiar with anyone involved except the buyer and he trusted my opinion so he asked me to look at it tell him what I thought...BTW...I have seen a few mandolin where the bridge saddle was installed backwards and some people say theirs intonated better that way, a matter of taste I suppose....

    We`er cool Tim...

I've had my F Standard with Englemann top for about three years and love it. I agree with you that they are hard to beat unless you lay down about $9,000 - $10,000.

Looking at his website, his standard F is $5K, but he also offers models from $8-12K. Also one "Hoss" replica played by Adam Steffey for $30K!

Very true, and many of the F standards I've played are on par tonally with the higher-end models.

I have a Daley built Gibson A5 from 1999.. Does that count? I wouldn't trade it for anything less than a Loar.
