Default "How High the Moon" - Tiny Moore solo

Here is another Tiny Moore transcription I wrote out a while back. This was from the early 80s and, when compared to his early work, really shows off how deep his knowledge of altered extensions and harmony had gotten later in his career. I swear I find something new every time I go back to analyze this one, so hopefully it will be as fruitful for y'all!

Thanks hucklebilly! The mando-tele I'm playing here is actually a project I built with my buddy and fellow Cafe member, Jacob Hawkins. He is a great luthier out of Columbus, OH and studied with Don Macrostie of Red Diamond Mandolins. I was getting really into Tiny Moore's playing and needed a 5 string emando, but didn't quite have deep enough pockets for the Roberts 5 that I wanted... lol

    Thanks, Hayes! Very nice.

You will find that we are a black hole here. You keep producing, we'll keep listening.

Thanks for these transcriptions Don. I'll go over these as well on my TG. What albums did they come from? I'd love to have a listen, as it helps me in feel, as I'm not the best reader.

Wow, thanks Don! Your playing has been a huge inspiration since I caught the jazz mandolin bug.

Hayes, how does that mandolin of yours sound for playing chords? Could you please post a video playing a few chord progressions?

Years ago I owned a 5-string electric mandolin, but the chording didn't sound good to me and I decided that I would rather play an acoustic mandolin through a microphone rather than use an electric mandolin and amp.

    dcav,

pretty sure the Stephane phrases came from a Quintette of the Hot Club of France side on the Swing label from March 26, 1947, which I have on a compilation on the Classics Chronological label, titled Django Reinhardt 1947

Bird's solo segment from his tune Ornithology came from a version from March 28, 1946. Ornithology of course based on the harmony of How High the Moon. Like Django's records, Bird's were released and re-released on various labels..Savoy may have been the original label, the compilation I have is on a re-issue label from Spain called Blue Moon..specific disc is called Charlie Parker The Complete 1944-1948 Small Group Sessions..
