    Default John Goodin Website

It seems I spend as much time searching for new music as I do playing what I've found. Tonight I ran across John Goodin's website. Don Julin has John's 'Bighorn River Sunset' on his Dummies book (a chord melody) and by following the internets bread crumbs came across this site.

Listen to the mp3's of 'Mother's Day' and the aforementioned 'Bighorn' - great stuff from a wonderful composer!!

John Goodin is a long tenured member of the forum, usually posting in the classical section. (Like many others here and in the mandolin community) he's been very generous with his compositions.

He's written a lot of great mandolin music. The group I play with has been working up his Cathedral Hill recently.

    Bookmarked.

Good stuff there Al, I'm a sucker for waltzes...
Despite the high cost of living, it still remains popular...

Same here! I search, and have found some nice waltzes and airs here and there but never in abundance. Mr. Goodin's website has so many of them that it really warmed my heart. Note to Goodin: Thanks for sharing all your great work with us!!

My all time favorites of his are still "St. Anthony and the Fishes" and "St. Francis and the Birds". And runner up is "Easter Jigs 2004" which I have performed as an Octave & Mandocello duet.

And don't forget his new book, "Playford for Mandolin". Skillfully edited and arranged!

Thanks, Phil. I listened to each of those and they are pretty special. My biggest stumbling block is not being able to (yet) read standard notation so I'm having to transcribe to TAB. It would be great for those of us who are 'notation challenged' to slide std. notation sheets in a xerox and have TAB come out the other.
