Default Jam Sessions in Eastern NC?

Just curious if anyone knows of any beginner-friendly jam sessions in Eastern North Carolina.

Statesville is likely not East enough for you....but I had to laugh at the typo in your title of "Easter" NC because last weekend I spent a couple of hours playing with the Easter Brothers of gospel bluegrass fame up in Mt Airy. It was an education getting to hear their stories from the 50s on up.

    I fixed the typo

Yeah, I noticed that after I set the forum. Sorry about the confusion. Not even sure if there is an Easter, NC

Thanks for fixing that for me, Mike.

With that said, Statesville is about 6 hours west of me so that would take lots of pre-planning, haha.

Hoping for something around the Greenville/Goldsboro NC area.

Look up AlanN here on the forum. I don't think he's quite that far east, but he may know of some out that way.
My dad and a couple other family members went to ECU but I haven't been out that way in a long time. Good luck!

There is going to be a Monday evening jam on Nov. 20 at the Eclub on Emerald Isle from 7-9PM. Not sure where you are located, but this is a new jam that is just getting started. It's open to all levels and we hope to get at least a monthly meet going after this.

I'm not to far from you and have found nothing in the area. Seems everything is in the Western part, but the only way I'm driving seven hours for a jam is if I hear banjo's behind me

Your best bet might be to just find a picker or two in your area to play with
And now for today's weather....sunny, with a chance of legs

There is (I think) an acoustic jam in downtown Washington, NC on Saturday mornings, and possibly Thursday evenings. I went a couple years ago while in the area for a wedding, and it was a lot of fun!

Have you thought about organizing a jam? I'd bet there are many folks in your area looking for folks to pick with. Seems like a public service ad and a community center is all you need to get an event up and going. Lp

They have had Sunday afternoon jams at the Back Street Pub in Beaufort. You might call and see if those are still going on.

The jam at Backstreet Pub is still alive. They let us use the room upstairs when it is wet or cold (or both). Kicks off around 2PM on Sunday afternoon.

There will be another jam at the Eclub on Emerald Isle on Jan 15, 2018 from 7PM til 9PM. Place has no chairs, so bring chair and join the circle.

The Beaufort County Traditional Music Association holds jam sessions on Thursday nights and Saturday mornings in the Turnage Theater lobby on Main Street in Washington, NC. The Thursday jam runs from 6:30 to 8:30, and the Saturday jam is 10:00 to 1:00. Players range from beginner to very good, and all are welcome. Thursday nights generally bring out 10-12 players, while Saturday’s are larger with 15-18 the average.

There are also two weekly jams at St. James United Methodist Church in Greenville. There is a beginner BG jam on Sunday afternoons, and a regular jam on Monday evenings.

PM me if you’d like some more information. Where are you located?

Sorry to bump an old(ish) thread, but I'm wondering if the Emerald Isle jam is still going on at any times? I'm not far from there (Pollocksville). Looking to get back into things after not playing for a few years. I grew up in Wilkes County, so I had plenty of choices up there when I was playing regularly, now not so much down east.

Hey folks, it's been a very long times since I've been on here. Wanted to bump up the NC jam thread. I'm looking to join or host in Johnston county, NC. Anyone interested?

I'd be interested in a JoCo jam if you're still trying to start one. Can bring guitar, mandolin, and upright bass, if that helps. I'm just a mando and bluegrass newbie, though.
