I'd always had a thing for Ronda. besides being a good mandolin player I always thought she was a very pretty lady as in hot looking. an my I say she still looks dam good on her latest CD cover. God help me I guess I am just a dog. I also like Olivia Newton John, also a great looking country lady.

Without trying to sound overly PC... when it come to Rhonda Vincent, Sierra Hull, etc....how about if we discuss their musicianship and not their looks?

Both of those ladies have really nice, successful careers and they've paid their dues and work very hard to maintain them. As with all entertainers, male and female, good looks doesn't hurt a career in the public eye - but I agree, that's the least interesting aspect of a performer's persona to discuss in the forum and best be tasteful about it. Just my thoughts, no reflection on the OP.

your right it dose not hurt to look good. that's one reason I bought a Olivia Newton John album & than I discovered she had a great voice & was a great singer. I think I have all her albums & I got them because I love her as a singer & not just a pretty face.

This is really not the direction we should be taking with this discussion. This isn't about being PC. It's about respect and focusing on the music. If we can learn anything from current events it is that we should treat people with respect and focus more on what they bring than how they look when they do it. The former shows appreciation for skills and talent and the latter can look creepy.

A fine singer to be sure, but i've always wished she would play more mandolin, as too many tunes have no mandolin break. i have no good reason for thinking this (other than being used to so many singers not playing any lead guitar), but a guitar works better as a prop for a singer than mandolin; just chopping is a let down. Of course, i would like Doyle Lawson to pick more in his live shows, too. No disrespect, just a little anticipointment.

So, who's the best-looking male mandolin player? Is that a topic that a female Cafe member might bring up? (Not too likely, IMHO.)

I was going to vote for Jesse McReynolds.

All of them! Playing mandolin adds major attractiveness to anyone!

Dan in Va...Some of the bands tend to have too many lead instruments that take a break in the middle of a song that is being sung so unless a song has four verses all of the lead instruments don`t get a chance to take a break, now on an instrumental song all of them can do their thing...When a band has a fiddle, banjo, dobro and mandolin they all don`t get a chance unless they each play a half of a break...I don`t have but four instruments in my just for that reason...Banjo and mandolin take all of the breaks...

Rhonda lately seems to take more breaks than she used to in her early years...

I haven't seen RV band lately, but when she was in The Sally Mountain Show, she soloed very often, and her style was like Buck White, which I really liked.

The poll shown was on a now defunct bluegrass website for a long time. I got this off the Wayback Machine and could not get the results anymore but Rhonda won by a wide margin.

I tried to get the image bigger and hopefully you can read it, but it asks Who would win in a fight? and lists Rhonda, Chris Thile, David Johnson and Casey Driessen.

I vote myself. So does my fiance. It's no surprise she also went on a date with another mandolin player before me (I don't know anything about his chops, so I'll just have to assume I'm better in that category too )

Willie, thanks for your insights. Yes, she does have a full sized band, but she is the headliner instead of a side musician, so maybe i expect a little more from the main attraction. Actually, i had lost interest with her Christmas album (the only CD of hers i have) and have seen some performances on YouTube. Splitting breaks is an option if there are more instruments than verses in a tune. i hope she's stepped up her game and will be successful in the years to come.
