    Default Pets with Mandolin-related names?

We have had threads about mandolin-and-pet related topics, but what about pet names? I did a quick search and didn't find any, although I might have missed them. Either way, here goes.

Cats are a big deal in my house and around the farm. My wife is heavily into shelter volunteering and TNR, and we have a number of great cats living in the various barns; all of which are very well cared-for.

The long-term feline resident of the bottom sheep barn recently passed at a ripe old age. Along came five little kittens badly needing somewhere to go, hence into that barn they went. I had the pleasure of naming them. When one has been through as many cats over the decades as we have, names can get a bit 'samey'.

So, here are their mandolin-related names:

Weber- A small black and white tabby female.
Gibson- A large black and white tabby male.
Phoenix- A beautiful, sleek gray with just touches of white, female.
    Martin- All black, male.
Hester- A gorgeous long-haired tortoiseshell female (really stunning kitten).

We don't tend to add cats all that often; only if they really need to get out of a bad situation and we can't place them elsewhere. But I am getting a kick out of this naming scheme and might keep it up in the coming years (if my non musically-inclined wife is willing).

So, what mandlin-related names have been given to your pets? I look forward to hearing about them.

    Best wishes,

    Bob

Same here... before I played Mandolin, I had a cat named Banjo... he was truly the greatest cat I’ve ever encountered. Everyone I knew who said “I hate cats” loved Banjo.

A planned to get a second cat and name it Mandolin, but Banj met an unfortunate end under a neighborhood car and we are still traumatized to the point where we aren’t ready to get another cat.

We currently have a dog named Lucy after the Chronicles of Narnia character.

Sorry to hear about your loss of Banjo. I know what it feels like. Don't rush it. You will know when you are ready.

I've wondered about mandolin-related names for future pets. How about Monroe?

Absolutely Monroe would be great. Always thought Nugget would be a good one too. “But honey we now have a dog named Nugget, now I need the instrument to match”... hmmm wonder how that would work?

I'm really getting a kick out of these names. Nugget is a great one, especially for a Golden Retriever. Frets for a Tabby. . .brilliant. Guy Clark is a really big name for a Betta! As for the Australian Shepherd named Sammy, I could use that one here on the farm!

Been thinking about this today. The next tortoiseshell kitten that shows up is going to be named Pick. Is that even legal?

I thought long and hard about naming my Olde English Bulldogge (that's her in my avatar) something instrument-related. Since my wife was really trying to convince me to let us get a dog, she gave me carte blanche to name it. But in the end, I just couldn't find a name that I thought would fit that grumpy mug. Plus, they say that you should think carefully about your pet's name since you will probably say that name out loud about 40,000 times over the lifespan of the animal. Anything that's awkward to pronounce, or that has too many syllables, will get irksome after a while. There were very few instrument-related names that I could think of that I would want to be calling out that many times over the years.

What's funny, though, is that we ended up naming her Juniper Pearl, and we call her June (or Junie) for short. So we unintentionally named her after a mandolin brand, June Mandolins. (I have no affiliation with that maker, nor have I ever owned or played one, and don't really even know anything about them other than they share my dog's name, LOL.)

If I had to intentionally pick a mandolin name for a girl dog, I think Pava would be a good one.

I bet Junie has a good life.

Tremolo might be a good name - or Mandy.
