Have many of you used Dan Levenson's Fiddle tune books with Mandolin tabs? Do you care for his tab versions?
Thank you,

Thank you,
I have 2 of his mandolin books. I will say that his versions of tunes can be different from how others are tabbed out. Not bad just different.
I don't have the books in front of me, however, if I recall correctly Dan explains his version of a tune, where he first heard it, and why he plays it that way.
Hopefully this helps.

Thanks Trav'linmando, I appreciate your input. I think the mando tabs are fine I was just wanting to know if one would call them the super basic or fairly intermediate versions. I like them anyway.
J.C. they are not in the basic category. I do use Dan's versions for several of the tunes I enjoy picking.

I would recommend that if you use tabs that you at least confirm what you learn from it with recordings.
I am someone who took the harder path of learning by ear, and I'm glad I did, because I can easily adjust if someone plays a tune differently from what I know. I do not mind learning a different version of a tune, but it is really annoying if I have to play along with someone who only knows something from tabs and doesn't realize that their timing is all wrong.
