Don't forget John Jorgensen.
Don't forget John Jorgensen.
Clyde Moody. He played mandolin for Bill on a few songs when Bill played guitar. Clyde deserves a mention for that!!!
Paul Hoffman
Greensky bluegrass
Evan Marshall - simply unbelievable
Brian Oberlin - looks like someone just beat me to it
Emery Lester - I would second also, really a wizard
Dominick Leslie blew my hat in the creek a couple months ago playing with Mike Barnett.
Tiny Moore! I keep wanting to add others, but they're more like "undiscovered" as opposed to underrated.
Recently ran into a CD by Nate Lee that I really enjoy. I also like Mandolin Orange. Can never remember the mandolinist’s name, but he is great, as his his partner on other instruments. Great stuff.
I'm not familiar with a lot of mandolin players (new to this world!) but I was very surprised at how few views this Josh Pinkham video got: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHXB...Kc1-1gb3JKt7JK
At first it's unassuming but that solo at about 3:15 (and then 6:15) kind of blew my mind. Now my goal is to be even half as good as that! But I'm a sucker for Radiohead...so maybe I'm just biased.
Carl Jones, Peter Ostroushko (already mentioned, but needs to be mentioned again), Bob Douglas (Powdermilk Biscuit Band, but a mainstay around Minnesota), Ralph Tuttila (Finn Hall), Oren Tikkanen.
These are my favorites. All should be better known. Especially the last 3. Said it many times before, Ralph is a master of harmony and fills in Finnish music, and the inspiration/teacher/friend for my mandolin playing.

Free opinions are worth exactly what you pay for them!
Ronnie McCoury
Living’ in the Mitten
I second Radim Zenkl
Has anyone mentioned U. Srinivas yet? He was amazing!
Someone mentioned Norman Blake. I have heard some real nice mandolin work from Nancy Blake as well.
Agree with Ronnie McCoury. Took him a while to get mentioned.
Ron Webb. Local picker who is a super picker
I definitely second Tim Obrien, Matt Flinner and Eva Holbrook
I'm thinking of another guys who plays one of the Loar signed F5's but I can't think of his name, or the name of his band.
Edit: figured it out,... John Reischman. Haven't seen his name.

Butch Waller of High Country
We saw Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen last summer. All four of those guys know their way around their instruments.
Andrew Marlin (Mandolin Orange) is one of my faves.
Johnny Staats!!!!
