    Default Joe Val 2018

It's coming up next weekend already! Time has flown since last year. Who's planning on going?

Looks like a fantastic lineup on the main stage this year.

I have never been to the event, but many years ago I was lucky enough to play his Loar!

I'll be at Joe Val Fest, of course! They haven't finalized the JV Workshop schedule for 2018 quite yet, but as far as I know I'll be teaching two fiddle workshops, the first of which would be ok for mandolin players, too:

    1. "Backing Up a Singer on Fiddle" Saturday Noon
Description: The bluegrass fiddler has a vital role in supporting the singer without
getting in the way. In this hands-on session, Dave will take you through when to play,
what to play, and how to play as you back up a singer.

    2. "Fiddle Bowing Patterns and Techniques"? Sunday Noon
Description: The notes you play are important, but it's your bowing that gives
voice to them and make them come alive. In this hands-on session, Dave will
take you through the bowing patterns and techniques that contribute to the
    sound of bluegrass fiddling.

I'll have a mandolin along, but don't know which one yet.

    Maybe I'll see you there!
    Dave

P.S. I'll have flyers at Joe Val Fest for Fiddle Hell Massachusetts, Nov. 1-4, 2018, which now has a mandolin track. We're still adding instructors, but I know our mando instructors will include Skip Gorman, David Surette, Richard Brown, Tony Watt, Shana Aisenberg, Eric Kilburn, and Jason Anick.

Workshop schedule has been posted! Here

Anybody doing the master classes or mid-level courses?

In theory I'm always interested in a meet-up. Good time?
