I had an Ode "The Monroe" F-5 style that wasn't too bad years ago.

Greg Boyd had one in his shop for quite a while. I played it. I thought it was kinda dead sounding. Anyway, I wasn't impressed. I think there are several threads on these but they may be hard to find unless you use google to do the looking. I think his BIN price is pretty ambitious.

There's an ODE A style with F holes in the classifieds right now. Kind of strange the difference of what is on the internal label.

    The F hole model says:

"THE GIVENS MANDOLIN / MANUFACTURED BY / TUT TAYLOR MUSIC, INC. /NASHVILLE, TENN. - DISTRIBUTED BY / GRETSCH - CINCINNATI, OHIO"
    The oval hole model label:

The one at Greg Boyd's House of Fine Instruments is still there, listed at $1400. So maybe the ebay listing isn't so outrageous after all. But I'm not tempted.

The first bid price is okay if it sounds good since it will need repaired per the ad.

I owned one with FF holes and when I played it it sounded dead but people that were a far piece away said they could hear it, so it must have projected quite a ways, I also removed some of the thick finish, about four times, and each time it sounded a little better, a lady came all the way to Maryland from Texas to buy it, she must have known something about it that I didn`t...good mandolins but only worth about $1,000 to $1200 to my way of thinking...They were said to be made to the same specs as the Loar signed A-5 but that is a matter of opinion...

Up to $260 and a little over a day to go, still saying "reserve not met." Wondering what the reserve is........

Did Bob Givens work on all of these or just some of them? Is there a serial number list somewhere?

I played that same one two years ago and it was dead then. I think he will be setting on that one for quite awhile.

There is not a lot of information out there.
A Google search has a bunch of Mandolin Cafe links.
