Default Purple-burst A-style, oval hole Muleskinner Mando

A new mandolin build for a local Vermont picker from the Muleskinner Instruments shop!

A style mandolin with oval-hole. Engelmann spruce top, European maple back and sides and Koa bindings.

The musician this was made for came to me asking for me to build her a mandolin, to which I enthusiastically said "yes!". Then she asked if it could be purple and I scratched my head...but was up for the challenge and am very happy with the results.

I did a purple stain on the back and sides and sprayed a reddish-purple sunburst for the top.

Very sweet and mellow tone. Link to demo on Youtube below:

Gorgeous! Great execution on an unconventional color scheme. I love the binding too. And it sounds good, so -- mission accomplished!

Lovely looking instrument, but would I commission a mandolin that I knew would come with what looks like Quick Draw McGraw on the headstock? Hmmmm.

Beautiful and it sounds great too. Looks a bit more purple in the video than it does in the photos above.

Thanks for all of the kind and constructive comments so far Cafe members. Looking forward to sharing more (4 more to stain in the shop this weekend and some more bold color choices are on deck).

The koa binding against the maple sides is a thing of beauty. The whole thing is gorgeous.

That's a gorgeous mandolin! When I saw purple in the thread title I cringed a bit, but you carried it off beautifully and subtly.

That's one of the coolest mandolins I've seen in a while! And from listening to the video, it sounds awesome as well.

Congratulations to you and the lucky new owner.
