Question Irish zouk + decals, good idea? (newbie)

    Sup guys!

I recently tried my hand at playing the Irish Bouzouki, and I must say that I love it!
I joined this forum yesterday in hope of finding other people to learn from
    Now, since I don't have a job I couldn't afford an expensive instrument, so I bought a Hora M1089 (don't laugh).

Now for my point, I wish to buy some cheap decal (Glorified stickers, really) to cover the roughly made fretboard markers.
Obviously I can't get something that covers the entire fretboard, since zouks have near rectangular fretboards.

Now, do any of you have any experience with Decals?
Do you know of a place where I can buy some?

It's a good idea on instruments under $600.

If the decals on the fretboard are placed so that your fingers rub them when you're fretting the instrument, they will wear through in fairly short order.

A Google search on "decals for sale" yields many hits for makers of custom decals. Most seem to be for automotive use, but browsing the different sites might yield pre-made ones you could use.

Warning: decals aren't period-authentic for your medieval re-creations. Of course, neither are "Irish" bouzoukis.

I've successfully used "inlay" decals on several instruments.

I've really never worn out such a decal.

When I first saw the thread I wondered if you were planning doing some Captain Beefheart on the bouzouki. Certainly a good idea!

Yeah, you’re right allenhopkins, cute little hello kitty stickers aren’t exactly historically accurate xD

As inlaystickers, well that guy might make some durable stuff, but he certainly dosen’t come cheap!

Oh well, looks like i’m going to kill my savings for that, anyway thank you guys for your help

Jeez, Dagger, does that take me back. I hadn't though of that recording in decades. To those of us of a certain age, (at least in the circle I ran in) truly an iconic record!

I'm not sure you were looking at the fret markers on that website I provided. There's over 50 fret marker sets for under $10 a set, which compared to the bouzouki isn't that much.

I am in the verge of ordering a set of the $6 1/8" markers for the side of my Strumstick mandola, now that I've been routinely plating above the seventh fret with chord melody, so I'm grateful to this topic for the reminder to do so....
