Thread: Case for a regal tenor guitar...

Default Case for a regal tenor guitar...

I know this has been asked before. I recently got a Regal tenor (actually SS Stewart but I believe it is rebranded). I know that the Martin terz case would work but I'm not looking to spend more on a case than I did on the instrument.

Does anyone know if a baritone uke case would work? This one looks promising:

How about this Golden Gate tenor guitar case?

    .....from an old posting.

Another case that works well for the late '20's Regal Tenors is a Cuatro case. I got a decent hard case from Sam Ash awhile back for $70 shipped. Punch up "Paracho Elite Deluxe Cuatro Case". Fits the neck, head, heel and bridge height perfectly. Sides of the body are just a hair loose. You will need to roll up a towel or old t-shirt to fill the gap between the endpin and the bottom of the case. Beats the heck out of the Mini-Taylor gig bag I was using.

Baritone Uke cases will not work. Make sure the SS Stewart has the same dimensions as the Regal. Is a tricky fit.

Ajh...Thanks for chiming in...I'm also looking for a small case and I checked out your original post with the photo of the Cuatro case. Would my size 5 (upper bout 8.25"; lower bout 11.25"; body length 16.25") fit with similar padding?
    Thanks!

Joe, Doesn't look like it will.

    My Regal measures:

    Upper Bout: 7.5"
    Lower Bout: 10.5"
    Waist: 6"
    Full Length: 31 1/4"
Body Length (not including heel block): 15.5"
    Thickness (including bridge): 3 7/8"

Thanks for the info, Tony. I'll keep looking. Of course, the Martin size 5 case from Elderly would certainly fit, but actually wouldn't mind finding a soft, padded case. Possibly something for a 1/2 or even 1/4 size classical guitar might work...

Joe, What I had been using for the Regal tenor (and other odd size smaller instruments without a fitting hard case) is the Taylor GS Mini padded soft case/gig bag. Very good padding and well built. They have changed the design somewhere along the way and the older ones are a little nicer. Usually find them used for about $40.

Just an FYI for anyone searching. The tgi ABS Baritone Ukulele Case won't fit a regal tenor as it's a bit tight on the shouder.

I purchased the Musicians Gear Bari case from Musicians Friends and it fits my Regal tenor just fine. I can not recall if I made a small mod for the neck support but it works just fineClick image for larger version.

Not a hard case but still quite protective and inexpensive - the Kala Sonoma Coast Baritone Ukulele bag fits the old Regal tenors wonderfully, have shoulder straps and a pouch for all those things that may not fit in a hard case. I love mine.

(PS their other baritone uke cases do not fit these tenors, just the Sonoma Coast line of bags.)

Great timing for this post to come back around. I was just starting the search for a case for a recently restored Regal tenor. TLG, That is exactly what I was looking for. ( My Regal looks to be the same model as yours, tough with quite a few more miles on it!) I'll post pictures soon.
