I've owned and played many Eastman 8 series mandolins and noticed a distinct lack of consistency in the body scrolls.
My question is do they make these just using their eyes or is there a set pattern which the likes of Gibson etc must use?

I never fail at anything, I just succeed at doing things that never work....
Fylde Touchstone Walnut Mandolin.
Gibson Alrite Model D.
Along the same lines. Eastman and Kentucky seem to be getting better and more constant. I wonder if they are using more CNC to rough the tops and backs? Would make sense in saving labor and increasing constancy?
Yes, but it's the general shape of the scroll I'm talking about.

Eastman is hand-carving these, so I could see how there might be some variation. That said, at any one time, they seem consistent when I receive them. THe Eastman's have had small changes here and there over the years.
