    Default Canzon a 4 by Giovanni Gabrieli (1553 - 1612)

    A canzona in 4 parts by the Italian composer, Gabrieli whose work represents the transition between the late Renaissance and Early Baroque.

    I have scored the piece for a quartet of 2 mandolins, 8ve mandola and guitar, but as the instrumental range is fairly limited the piece lends itself to a variety of instrumental combinations - e.g. the lower two parts could be both for guitars or both for 8ve mandolas; the 3rd part is equally suitable for an Alto/Tenor mandola (CGDA) or even a 3rd mandolin; the lowest part could be played on mandocello.
