I’ve seen Roman numerals and Arabic numerals in chord charts, but this is the first time to see only a series of dots

Sorry, couldn't figure out how to delete the whole topic when I rediscovered the original discussion, then was called away from the computer for a while, so I replaced content with dots, how do I delete this? Maybe removing this requires a moderator?

More or less, though that's more of a beginners violin music.

Thanks, that's exactly the type of thing I am after.

Sorry for the late reply, for some reason I don't get email notifications from this site.

Sorry for the rather late reply, for some reason I don't get email notifications from this site, was travelling, Covid, etc.

In addition to maudlin mandolin's helpful answer, I found a useful link to a PDF that answers my question exactly the I asked, and includes chords for 8 strings & 10 strings mandolin, which is what I play:

    https://pdfcoffee.com/acordes-bandolimpdf-pdf-free.html

I don't even need to look at the chart unless I have some doubt, all the information I need is in standard music notation.

Don’t worry about it Don, it’s all in fun. I recall your original thread now that it’s been resurrected. For those interested, find it here: https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/t...ndard-notation

Everything at mandoscales is in standard notation, with lots of chord exercises.

    CGDAE included, eg:

This one is interesting, apparently even more comprehensive:

    Yes:

    https://mandoscales.com/pdf/

CGDAE versions are on the bottom half of the page. The GDAE and CGDAE versions often have the same name (the CGDAE's will have a "5" added to the name) but are usually different enough that both are useful (as opposed to redundant) clicking on the image gives you a full view of the first page, so you can have a good look and decide for yourself.

I have tried to search for material written for the violin as an alternative, but fiddle stuff also uses tab notation, and classical violin stuff seems to have a somewhat different understanding about chords than what is commonly done on the mandolin.

Hard level material is fine, I am hoping to find more than just the basics.

    Thanks for any hints.
If you just need the chords in standard notation, then it shouldn't matter if it's a violin book right? Personally, I would just pickup a piano book since that will have pretty much everything you need.

This has some good ones further in the PDF - http://www.bandworld.org/pdfs/DaveyHandout.pdf

For the positioning of how to play the chords on mandolin, I have not seen a specific book / pdf that covers all chords etc. That said, Aaron Weinstein has a great course on Peghead Nation - he has a great chord library in the I Got Rhythm lesson. You can sign up for his courses here - https://pegheadnation.com/string-sch...aron-weinstein. In general, his charts have standard notation, chord diagrams, and tabs - and since it's jazz based, there's a lot of variety in the chords used in each lesson. Given your request, I'd highly recommend his courses.
