    Default Roy McMillan mandolins

    Howdy,

I wanted to share a curios mando I've come across. This is an instrument built by the late Roy McMillan of the bluegrass 'High Country Boys.' Inked inside is Roy's name and a date in 2000. I have seen photos of another with the 'MCM' pattern on the headstock -- the instrument Roy played, but I can't find mention of any others.

Have any of who ever come across one? I'm wondering if Roy made these from scratch or if he was working from a kit or workshop.

The instrument has something of a rough finish, and the nut is eccentric -- very high and slotted such that the 8 strings are very nearly equidistant. It sounds okay, though, and the intonation is very good.

Hello! I know this post is several years old but I'd like to let you know that all authentic Roy McMillan mandolins were in fact hand built by Roy McMillan himself. They are all one of a kind and no two were ever made alike.
