    Default Giusepe Pettine Scores

Hi friends, I'm Héctor M., a mandolinist from Spain... I'm looking for scores from Pettine for solo mandolin, mandolin and guitar or mandolin and piano. If you can help me I would be very thankful.

There are 19 Pettine compositions in the (now defunct) Nakano archive, mostly for solo mandolin. I downloaded them before it went offline.

One problem with this is the different copyright laws globally. In the US, all works published before 1923 are automatically in the public domain, whereas in the EU, copyright is life of composer plus 70 years. Canada has life of composer plus 50 years. Pettine died in 1966, i.e. all his compositions are in copyright in the EU and public domain in Canada. In the US, those with a copyright date or date of first publication before 1923 are public domain, those afterwards may not be. I understand that CMSA have made part of the Nakano archive available to their members, after removing those potentially protected by copyright. I'm not a CMSA member so can't confirm what their site has from Pettine.

The Cafe servers are in the US, so I think I am OK to upload any pre-1923 compositions by Pettine -- whether you download them from the EU is up to you. Some of the Nakano scores have a copyright date on them, others have only an opus number. However, as Pettine's Opus 48 was copyrighted in 1922, all compositions with an opus number before then should also be OK.

Here is the first batch of pre-1923 Pettine compositions from the Nakano archive. More in the next post.

Thanks, Jim -- that one was missing in my Nakano download. I have a few gaps as I downloaded them manually one-by-one. Based on the Nakano index, I'm also missing "Twilight Reverie" (Pettine-G-MP30-07.pdf).

I think the best-known Pettine piece these days is "Christmas Song", Op. 2 No. 5 (Pettine-G-MP30-04.pdf in my first post), which has been recorded by Alison Stephens and others in recent years.
