    Default The Pointless Mandolin

I saw this in the sidebar on youtube. When you see a title like that, you just have to watch. It is an interesting build and sounds good. Is Larry a member here?

I like that. The mando and the video. That thing really puts out some sound.

I could not tell if the video sound was just distorting or the mandolin was buzzing.

Evidently heel-less, too. Here are some photos.

Aren’t A5’s already “pointless”? Anyway, it’s hard to tell how it really sounds. It seems loud but it’s obviously a very reverberant room, which can contribute to the illusion of volume. Doesn’t seem to have any low end to speak of.
As a side note, the player has a very odd right hand playing style. It’s like only his thumb and index finger move. No wrist movement at all.

This is not the famous Larry Campbell, Nashville sideman. He doesn't play mandolin like that nor does he have that voice. Nor is he headless (or pointless). A common name, of course.

Thanks Jim, I am not familiar with Larry Campbell, the Nashville sideman. I may have to google him.

Worth checking out. I've seen him play in a number of settings and he is always terrific.
