Thread: Replacement strings for an inductive type electric mandolin

Default Replacement strings for an inductive type electric mandolin

I have a Saga MT-10 electric mandolin and I have already broken a string. I'm thinking I'd better get a grip on replacement strings for this.

What kind of strings replace these strings and where would I get them? This electric uses an inductive type pickup, not piezo.

Generally called a magnetic pickup rather than inductive. You can use any electric guitar string you want.

You can order mandolin appropriate sets from our own Mr. Emando Martin Stillion:

It would help if I could get some place to start for string gauges in making a choice from electric guitar strings.

I don't see anything at emando unless you are talking about these:

But the lower strings are all round wound and I would rather not use round wound with a magnetic pickup.

Perhaps I should point out that the Saga MT-10 is a single course mandolin and only uses four strings, not eight.

Check out https://www.juststrings.com/loopendsinglestrings.html They offer single and multi packaged single gauge loop end strings or ball end strings. https://www.juststrings.com/stainles...lestrings.html. R/

    Then perhaps you'd prefer flatwounds:

Try thinking of an 8-string set as a pair of 4-string sets, then.

D'Add flat wound work + nickel round wound (core wire always steel )

& you can get guitar strings and crush the ball leaving a loop

or form your own loop on the opposite end

drive a nail in some wood to bend the loop around

and wind the end around the string with pliers..

Well, one cool thing about those Saga mandolins is the tailpiece ... it can take either ball-end or loop-end strings.
