    KPTZ announces a week-long radio special on the history of Brazil’s Choro music. The show, A Joyful Cry: Brazil’s Choro Music was produced by WFMT Radio Network out of Chicago, and is hosted by Chicago flautist Julie Koidin and Brazilian musician Geraldo de Oliveira. It is a west coast premiere, presented in four one-hour segments, documents the history of this music – the first truly Brazilian music – Stream it on KPTZ.ORG on the web.

    Air dates:
    #1 – The History of Choro to the Present Day
    #2 – Choro and Classical Music
    #3 – The Brass and Woodwind Virtuosos of Choro
    #4- The String Players of Choro

    This includes incredible performances never released other than on this show. Especially useful to us is the fourth show, with the string players. Show one is also a good overview.
    Features Dudu Maia, Jacob do Bandolim, Danilo Brito among many others.

    If anyone listening to these in the Chicago area wants to hear Julie, Geraldo plus several other talented musicians, come to the monthly Roda de Choro on April 14th, 7pm at Sabor A Café Steakhouse in Chicago. From a FB post by the talented 7 string guitar player John Beard:
