There's an outdoor old time jam held every Tuesday, 7-9, in Post Office Square in the heart of Portland. Goes through the summer months.
All are welcome - bring yourself - and a chair if you need one.

Hi Jim,
I'm in Conway NH, about an hour and 15 minutes out of Portland. Do you know of any bluegrass jams in the Portland area? I know there is one on the second thurs I think. How is that one? (I just moved up here from Louisville and I'm seriously missing my picking pals!)
Thanks,
Troy

Hey Troy -
Just an idea, but you might reach out to David Surrette, just to see if he has any students up your way, or knows of any jams. There's a jam on thursdays led by Steve Roy, maybe in Dover, NH. And Dave Talmadge leads some jams in Newmarket, NH sometimes. Don't know what your level is, but there's a intermediate student in Lewiston who plays mandolin, i know she wants some folks to play with. I wish i could think of anyone closer to to Conway!

Check with the folks at the North Conway Music Center. They may have a jam there. Tamworth Lyceum (in Tamworth) used to have something on Sundays. Shaina Aisenberg also had a string band that used to meet in Wakefield. Not sure that is still going.

What J Walsh and Mandobar said... The only Portland area bluegrass jam I'm aware of happens at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth, Maine
317 Main Bluegrass Jam is Tuesday’s from 730 pm until 9 pm with Lincoln Meyers.

I'd be there if it was in that OTHER Portland

Thanks for these resources. I'll start looking into these avenues! I actually saw JWalsh picking at Cranmore and at a festival at an apple farm in Maine and hearing some mando and acoustic music other than my own was like food for my soul! I'll get it figured out. Thanks again you all, I really appreciate the references.
Yeah. It's about three thousand miles from the real Portland, here in Maine. The one on the Left Coast is named after ours.
The two founders of the Oregon burg with the TV show flipped a coin to decide whose hometown to name it after. One was from Boston. The other was from Portland.
A lot of those west coast towns were settled by footloose New Englanders. That's where the communitarian vibe comes from. Party on, dudes!
I'm going to be in the Portland (yes, Maine) area next week and wondering what the jamming scene is like? Anything happening?
