I was at Carters Vintage this past Tuesday. I was there to play a Nugget/Collings TOB #12 (I did buy it). I hear this great music coming from another area of the room and it was Mike Compton playing the newest Loar to come into the shop. I played it after Mike, well I strummed it a little and played a tag. Mr Compton was extremely gracious with his time and knowledge. Once again I now understand another thing I didn't before, now will everyone pitch to help me buy the Loar

It's always fun to be able to have hands on time with those special instruments and to have some time with players we admire. You had a hat trick that day!

That is a cool experience. You must have had a huge grin on your face as you walked out of there with a great new mandolin and having had the time spent with Mike Compton. Thanks for sharing.

That is a day to treasure. And your souvenir of it is enviable itself.

Good times I bet, playing one of the rarer Loars even with the Gibson refinish job still awesome experience I bet! You should've played all the Loars they have as its not everyday one can play a bunch of them! Plus coming home with a fine mandolin doesn't hurt! Great story. Is that one of those black top Nugget built but Collings finish mandolins? Also are those varnished?

You probably received an ear adjustment. After Playing a Lloyd Loar F-5 gor the first time my perception was never the same anymore.
