    Default Bickford Mandocello Method

I know this has been posted in the past, but I was wondering if anyone had a copy of this (digital or physical) that they’d be willing to share/part with? I’d even take a bunch of images of the pages at this point. It’s been on my list as something to get, but I haven’t had much luck lately.

Any help would be amazing. Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to post it here.

    Thanks!

I have a few excerpts and modern-edited pages I used in my CMSA mandocello workshop last year. You should think about attending this year's convention in Normal IL. There will be more new MC music along with some very exciting events posted here in CBOM.
Contact me and I'll email you what I got: jfimhoff@msn.com
Bickford's work is in treble clef, or the vaunted "Universal Clef" but there are also some modern bass clef editions.

Hi Jim. Sending you an email. I’ll certainly take anything that you have. I’d still like a copy of the whole thing if at all possible if someone else out there has one they’d be willing to scan/share.

    Thanks!

I want to thank everyone for reaching out. To let half a cat out of the bag, the reason why I’m collecting this is to reissue the original Mando-cello method (1913 copyright, it is in the public domain). My intention is to have a version in Universal Clef, Bass Clef, G clef (for octave mandolin). I anticipate that I should be done by first quarter next year. I’d like to offer the remake on a pay what you want.

Then I want to do a second Method book for Mandocello based off how I think bickford would have progressed (using excerpts and exercises etc). That’s probably at least 1-2 years down the line.

If I have time, I also want to create accompaniment tracks for the original method. This would also be done in my spare time as I have a full-time job, but I think it’s value would be significant.

So final questions. From what I have been sent, if anyone has the original, I’d just like to make sure of a couple of things.

We’re there any pages between the cover and page 2 Foreward? A table of contents maybe? Also, was there anything after page 86 (The moderato)? If anyone could look at their copy and take a picture and send those pages, I’d be grateful.

Thanks again for everyone being so amazing. I love this group, so when I finish the remakes, I’ll post them here. They’ll include a link to paypal if you’d like to donate to book 2. You certainly do not have to. Giving back is what’s most important.

(((Also, would anyone be interested in Bickford Vol 1 for mandola? Or for Soprano Mandolin?))). Please let me know!

Thanks again everyone. You’re all the best!

As I said in another post, people working much harder on this than I am! Thanks for your dedication, John.
As far as furthering the work, you should know that August Watters will be publishing a Progressive Melodies for Mandocello text soon. It will be a collection of studies, but they are quite interesting musically and most would stand alone as "selections" to play.

It’s all good. Anything to help further the mando-cello methods I think would be nice. Especially with more affordable ones coming on the market.

Howdy, I posted this in the Goichberg thread, but for anyone who may search up this thread in the future, here's a Dropbox link containing both the Bickford and Goichberg Vol. 1

There’s only one small issue with the bickford and that’s some of the music is cut off. I can figure out most of it, but there are a couple places I could use a picture of the original page if someone has it.

Hrm, I hadn't noticed, but I can see that being a problem.
