I restored this old Kay for a dear friend of mine. His dad played it back in the 60-70s. At some point the neck block was broken. A band mate “repaired” the neck by filling it full of glue and putting in a decking screw. The sides were busted where it was glued to the poplar neck block. I had to bend some maple to replace the side wood and make a new block out of mahogany. We decided to go with a bolt on neck, even had to make a long Allen wrench took to reach the cap screws through the end pin. Changed the sunburst up a bit to help cover some cracking in the laminated wood, would loved to have given it a proper burst. He gave me the liberty to try out my “Dude” inspired binding channel jig on my router table. I went with a classic 3 ply w/b/w binding scheme. Thanx for checking out my post!
