I move up or down the neck to enhance expressiveness. For example if the tune has a call and response, I might do the response up the neck, so that it can sound like a conversation. Or if there is a slow crescendo involving a repeated phrase, I might gradually move up the neck with each repeat, to emphasize the effect.
All of this is irrespective of the tremolo.
I don't know of anything up the neck that enhances tremolo or makes tremolo easier, it is just another way to mix it up and have some variety in tone.
