Actual EDISON wax cylinder recording "The Cricket on the Hearth"
"Cricket on the Hearth" fiddle/banjo duet recorded on an actual 1915 Edison Model "B" cylinder recording machine using a "yellow paraffin" wax cylinder. Cylinder recordings were limited to 2 minutes and provided a constant lineal recording/playback speed (compared to the later disc recording which would have a faster lineal speed on the inside tracks). The Recording Engineer was mandolinist extraordinaire, the late, Robert Fraker, AKA Smedley DeRange.
