well done! Perfect oval hole!
Then again, I'm not a fan of the hybrid ovals and a big fan of the Model 1!

WELL DONE ~ that’s a world class instrument!
Things lined up right for you ~ those Gils don’t become available often and you were in the right position... You got yourself a great mandolin.
I also prefer the shorter neck ovals - when they’re made right, there’s something special going on with the feel and tone.
If you’re even on the west coast of Canada, I’d love to do some mandolin tasting ...
Enjoy it in good health
... not all those who wander are lost ...
You bet!
I’ll be interested to hear how the Gilchrist measures up against your recollections of the Black. I will confess that I have long felt that a Model 1 was my end of the road oval, but I have a hard time at this point believing that it is three times or $5K better than my A2-z.

I've had the Gil a few days and am getting used to playing it. The '24 A2Z definitely has something special, no mistaking that. But the Gil is very, very nice, the intonation is perfect (unlike the Gibson), and it has better overall playability.
The more I play the Gil, the better it sounds. It's opening up for me. Mike Compton's theory is the more you play a mandolin, the more it sounds to you; it becomes more responsive to the tones you tend to play, your right-hand attack, etc. Maybe some of that works the other way around? You become more aware, consciously and unconsciously, what to do to get the sounds you want. Suffice to say I'm happy to have it. ...
I just like mandolins period. And I like having and playing different ones. I even like using different picks. My go-to is a Blue Chip CT, but there's a Wegen stuck in the Pava strings, a Dawg pick in the F2.
Life is good!

Congrats. As I say, I used to own the Model 1 that was one number away from that, and it was a spectacular instrument that I never should have sold.
