If the only bird that sings in the forest is the one that sings the best, than the forest would be a very lonely place.

one I just heard on an NPR tiny desk concert, Max Richter -On the Nature of Daylight (with an absolutely beautiful viola part)
"I'm always interested in the idea of music being a place to think"
you can look at that from both the perspective of the listener and or the performer, in a way the performer must be both......

"Mean Old Timer, He's got grey hair, Mean Old Timer he just don't care
Got no compassion, thinks its a sin
All he does is sit around an play the Mandolin"
This is my first post so what better way to start off than by posting the quote on duane Allman's gravestone
"I love being alive and I will be the best man I possibly can. I will take love wherever I find it, and offer it to everyone who will take it ... seek knowledge from those wiser ... and teach those who wish to learn from me.”
I don't remember who said this to me, or if they got it somewhere else-but it's great advice for any musician;
"Play it like you mean it."
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?
As a songwriter, I am often reminded of a quote I once heard back in the 70's (of all places) on The Muppet Show.
Floyd the bass player offered to write a new theme song for the show, and at one point he said: 'If I didn't know I was such a genius, I wouldn't listen to the trash I write'.
