Default Metronome Android app recommendations, please

Yes, this often comes up. But would like to know in early 2020 what folks are using? Already have Metronomerous as it was able to set up a good polska rhythm. But would like a second one to use so won't have to re-do the settings all the time.

So, what do you have on your phone?

    TIA

I use Natural Metronome. It seems to provide regularly spaced clicks just fine.

I use one called "The Metronome by Soundbrenner". So far it's the best I've found. Has many more features than I need. Very smooth and the user-interface is very nice.

I'm using Metronome Beats. I tried a few others before settling on it. I like that you can save multiple setups with a name (perhaps the song you use it on) and the ability to tap a tempo and have it set to that. It also provides a nice visual display of beats. There may be others out there just as good though

I use Time Guru. Pretty simple interface. It's big selling point is a random mute function that works on a percentage. For example, you can have it mute 60% of the beats to see if you can maintain the timing without an audible click.

Thanks everyone! Ended up getting "The Metronome by Soundbrenner". Exactly what I needed. Now am one of the geeks with multiple metronomes on his phone.

This seems like an awesome feature!

How do you like the rest of the app? Can you compare it to any of the others on the list?

Oh, and just discovered this morning, the Soundbrenner will also let you change the emphasis on different beats. So can quickly create a polska rhythm on it.

I honestly can't compare it to any of the other options. The only other metronomes that I've used are free online ones that just offer a straight click.

I like the functionality of the app. It's possible to set up any time signature and also move the accents where you want. One can even set it up for funky added beats (crooked old-time tunes, e.g.) by building a tune like you would in a chord generator. But honestly, I usually just set it up as a straight 1/1 beat with no accents. Also has a pretty good library of click sounds. Good value for $1.99

Another endorsement for Soundbrenner. The free version is very customizable and easy to use.

Sorry, I don't get it? Was I asking something inappropriate?

FWIW, at this point, am using Metronomerous based on recommendations from a couple of friends who teach Nordic music.

I'm not sure what Simon meant by Artificial Intelligence (AI). But I may need some (intelligence) to easily use some of these very complex and capable metronome apps.

lol, what happened is … just prior to Simon’s post, there was a post from a spammer, a post which oddly included some eerily contextual fluff about online metronomes before planting its totally unrelated link. I think that spurred Simon’s comment. I reported the spam post to moderators and it was removed, making Simon’s post appear as a non sequitur here.

So ... practicing with a metronome is a *great* idea. I have a bunch of different metronomes on my phone and 'physical' metronomes scattered around the house. Each has some unique feature that sets it apart from the others and makes it worth keeping. My metronomes are my very best friends (insert snarky joke about my social skills here )!

That said, unless you have a click track running in your IEM's when you're out there playing, you need to have a strong internal sense of time and the ability to stick to a steady tempo over the duration of a tune. A GREAT tool for checking in on how well you can do that is "LiveBPM" available for Android and iDevices. Sadly, it's no longer being developed but it is still available in both the App and Play Stores, so go grab yourself a copy.

LiveBPM is like a metronome in reverse. You play and after a second or two of buffering, the app shows you the tempo you're playing at in BPM format and it also graphs how well you're holding tempo over time! It's wonderfully cool and highly recommended!! Comes in handy at band practices too, to check in and see you well the entire band holds a consistent tempo.
