    Default What?

I just read that various states, towns and counties have forced the closing of 'non-essential' business in their states . . . and this includes MUSIC STORES!

Obviously, none of the folks who made these decisions is in the middle of recording a new album, just broke a string, and doesn't want to have to wait 3 or 4 days for a new set to arrive by mail!

I'm so mad, I'm going to write my governor, congressman and mayor!

Oh wait, they are probably part of the crew that made the decision that a music store is 'non-essential' in the first place . . .

    Nevermind.

Non-essential to whom!? I think it is hard enough for a professional musician to keep things together without this unwarranted step. Sheesh!

The liquor stores are still open, and here in Oregon, so are the pot shops. Priorities are so important.

I can mail order picks, strings and mandolins, can't mail order booze. Its so hard

But its not trivial, so pay attention and stay safe.

Actually Bill, most states have some provision for direct shipment of alcohol to consumers and, lucky you, Oregon allows direct shipment of beer and wine! So you can mail order booze (depending on your tastes)!

I always have a couple sets of spare strings on hand. When things starting getting bad here in NJ I starting sticking up on booze too!

Don't fall into the faulty thinking of complacency. This is going to reach everyone, everywhere. I'm amazed businesses are even operating mail order. Pay attention to medical professionals. Meanwhile order three or four sets of strings wherever you can.

To be safe, should they already be installed on a new mandolin?

I like the way you think. It really is best to be prepared for any eventuality.

I talked to the owner of our local music store a couple days ago. He said if you call him he will put merchandise on the back porch for you, leave a check and no one has to go without strings. GHS said today they stopped making stings for a few weeks so when there stock is out it will be a wait to order. Not sure how much inventory they carry.

Imagine how well this octave would complement your piccolo! https://www.mandolincafe.com/ads/152413#152413

Just trying to keep us safe. We are in route home from Florida and hiding out in the mountain forrests in our RV. Nearly everything closed. No use hurrying home to the Burgh with governors orders to not leave your home unless someone’s life depends upon you leaving. I’m not going to hurry back to that. Besides, I feel much safer here with no people to infect me.
It all comes down to reducing risk for ourselves and others
Though, I do feel your pain of a broken string. I’m, suffering as well with a new Stiver Mandolin awaiting my home arrival.

I'd sure love it, too. I'm afraid it is not in the budget even at that bargain price. I am currently building a piccolo though, a flat-top. I'll start posting pictures soon. Piccolos are small so of course, you can't have just one!
