Default Kerman Mandolin copy by Mintu Biswas

As usual, just surfing around and watching Carlo Aonzo's video of his playing of his father's lovely lullaby when I found this recent video from Tapas Roy of his playing the same tune on a Kerman copy double-top mandolin.

I found the luthier's posting of this mandolin on Facebook:

I just saw this thread after posting some pictures of my own recently finished Kerman copy in the 'Videos, photos etc' forum, if anyone is interested.

Hey, Tom. I guess no one else is interested in this thread. I will link from yours, too.

Looks very nice. Good job on playing the lullaby. What purpose does the slot serve between the tuners? Wondering if that weakens the structure.

Well, you had 11 people thanking you for the interesting post. So there are readers taking an interest.

Whether I can find anything useful to say is a different question. A mandolin I'll never be able to afford played better than I'd ever be able to play it.

I'm not finding this thread, Tom, with the pictures of your instrument. Could you provide a link?

Bill: I want to scan the original photos Ron took. Have not posted any photos yet. Working on it. Was not sure this was the site to post.

What's so interesting about the Kerman design, other than its looks. I'm completely ignorant on the subject. Never heard of them before.

Avi Avital and many other Israeli mandolinists play instruments by Arik Kerman. They made him famous. It became a feature of Israeli school of mandolin playing. The instruments are double top and have very loud voice to start with. Plus design is very interesting. Arik Kerman also made classical guitars using his invented features. They are rare and sought after.
